Green Jobs

Most eco-friendly lifestyle choices have financial benefits over long periods of time, which is a great way to establish financial and environmental security. However, if you’re looking for a way to further capitalize on the financial benefits of a green lifestyle, you may be in luck. In 2007, the House Education and Labor Committee passed the Green Jobs Act, which will ultimately provide $125 million to national and state training in jobs grounded in the renewable energy and energy-efficiency industries. Even now, although the economy is not at its best, the market for green jobs is growing as more business leaders feel the need to keep up with the increasing developments in cutting-edge green technology. In order to do that, though, they need people with the proper training, and since this is a relatively new market there are plenty of opportunities available.

Many of the jobs offered in this new market not only create new career paths for those who thought their options were limited, but also give new meanings to what was thought to be a “standard” job. For example, wind energy plants are great environmentally-friendly alternatives to the average factory jobs. Even though they require a bit more training, leaders in this field are confident that that training pays off. Health and medicinal fields are also making a strong push towards more natural solutions, which means that less conventional ideas are now being reconsidered. For those without much formal training, jobs like iPod-repairs, which lean toward a younger crowd, help reduce “e-waste” and can be surprisingly well-paying.

Green-collar jobs are fairly new, so it might take a little bit of research to find something that fits your qualifications. However, there are quite a few websites that focus specifically on jobs in this market. Also, don’t be afraid to create your own job! Since the market is new, many areas are largely untapped and waiting for a more eco-friendly solution. Until then, here is a list of places to get started:
